Winter Fun in the Methow Valley and at Sojourns Guesthouse
The Methow Valley has an abundance of activities and entertainment to offer people of all ages during the winter months. Whether you enjoy the simple pleasures of drinking hot cocoa while breathing in the crisp wintry air and watching the deer pass through peaceful scenery, or prefer to actually get out and experience the exhiliration and fun of winter activity, the Methow Valley and Sojourns Guesthouse is awaiting you!
With over 200 km of daily groomed cross country trail, the Methow Valley is fast becoming a very popular and loved secret destination that everyone is talking about! The second largest cross country trail system in the U.S. is also home of what is arguably the finest. Not only are the trails incredibly maintained, but the variety of scenery and low user density make the trails extremely unique!
In addition to the ski trails, the Methow Valley Sports Trail Association also meticulously maintains the many snowshoe trails around. Or, if you would like, blaze your own trail right from our guesthouse door and hike up to overlook the town of Twisp.
And, if downhill is more your speed, Sojourns Guesthouse is only a short 20 minutes drive from the nearby Loup Loup Ski trails, and 1.75 hours drive from Mission Ridge (easily accessible for a days outing).
In between bustling winter activity, take the binoculars from the guests' only parlor and check out the bird activity as you relax by the fire pit in our outdoor recreational area. There, the kids can sled, while you huddle around a warm fire!
Then, be welcomed with hot cocoa, apple cider, and homemade goodies when you return to your home away from home for the evening!
The Town of Twisp
The town of Twisp lies at the center of the beautiful Methow Valley.
Although small by any standards, the Town of Twisp and surrounding area offer a diversity of things to do for anyone visiting the Methow Valley.
On Saturday mornings in the summer, the Twisp Farmers Market is a bustling place where local farmers and artisans sell their wares. Locals and visitors alike congregate at the community center’s parking lot to nibble and check out the crafts and handiwork of local folk.
The Town of Twisp showcases the many talents of the local population, displayed at the Confluence Gallery in downtown Twisp. New and exciting exhibits continuously grace the gallery’s space speaking to the soul and mind. Be sure to check out the gallery for gift ideas from local artists and artisans as well.
Twisp is also the home of the Merc Playhouse, a professional theater . The venue provides quality entertainment, music, dance, and theater; offering two plays a year, and concerts and readings at other varying times.
When visiting Twisp, visitors definitely should not leave without trying some of the local fare. Unusual for most small towns, the town of Twisp is fortunate to be home of several quality food establishments suitable for any budget and taste, including its own brewery, The Twisp River Pub: www.methowbrewing.com, which features great real food, fresh brews, homemade sodas, and live bands on most weekends. Another wonderful choice is Tappi, a casually elegant dining establishment featuring authentic Italian cuisine in an intimate setting, complete with an imported wood burning oven, live music, and great wine. Definitely don't leave the Methow Valley before eating at least one meal in Twisp - it's where the locals go!
Near Twisp
Eight miles north-west of Twisp is Winthrop. Winthrop is known for its western facades reminiscent of times past when horseback, and horse drawn carriages were the main modes of transportation. The main street, Riverside Avenue provides abundant shopping and galleries. A wonderful food establishment fairly new to the Methow Valley is the Topo Café, a not your typical asian restaurant featuring delicious fine Vietnamese cuisine.
Traveling west from Twisp is the spectacular drive on the North Cascades Scenic Highway 20 over Washington Pass, and Rainy Pass. This beautiful and breathtaking journey takes you to several hiking trails, where short day hikes or backpacking trips begin.
